Bagging or mulching leaves is a great way to get your place looking great in the fall months.

As leaves start to fall consider mulching the light accumulation. When they really start to come down and have pretty much covered the lawn and landscape, its time to break out the rake and bags.

Yes, even with the technology and fancy equipment these days, we still find that bagging and raking leaves is the best method. I have seen company’s and homeowners swear that mulching is the easiest and best way to go. That’s just not the case sometimes. I have to smile and shake my head when I pass a crew with a pile of leaves being pushed in front of the riding mower like its a bulldozer….. clogging up as it tries to chop up all that debris. Those who run over the lawn multiple times to get this stuff shredded just added a thick layer of thatch that can cause issues later.

Our approach on leaves is we will use mulchers on our mowers for light accumulations and during periods where the wind is just knocking them off trees in early fall. Once they have all fallen we walk your property with our leaf blowers to get everything out in the open lawn. We then will rake and bag. Yes, before we mow we rake and bag. This gets the bulk of the leaves. After this we run over the lawn to get any remanance which is now, mulched. This allows your yard to not be compacted with unwanted thatch that can thin out your grass. Which can lead to weeds.

 For large acreage properties we have a bagging system that goes on our riding mowers as well as baggers for our walk or stand on mowers.

Again, we still will walk the lawn and blow first to get everything out in the open.  with larger acreage the time spent raking would be a big cost so using a bagging system will save a client money and save us time on site………which will save the client money. Most large acreage and wooded lots will have an area to dispose of the leaves without leaving bags behind using the system, or we can simply take it all with us. Natural wooded areas are  a good place to dispose of leaves on site and this of course saves money as to not have to transport and dispose of the debris.
